As it is in Heaven by Arlene Hutton directed by Carrie Lee
October 14-17 in the Zula Pearson Theatre
October 23 for the ACTF competition held at Texas A&M Commerce

Loosely based on historical events, As it is in Heaven focuses on a religious community that is changed when a non-believer has an extraordinary experience. The 1830's Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky is set in ordered ways. Their once dramatic form of worship has by now developed into routine. The arrival of a newcomer upsets the harmony by claiming to see an unsettling vision in the meadow. Soon all the young women in the community are receiving spiritual "gifts" that are questioned and condemned by the religious elders. What is this vision? A divine message or something of a dark nature? A beautiful blessing, the delusions of a disturbed young woman, or an intentional lie to serve her own ends? Shaker singing and ecstatic dancing punctuate the scenes of the play which offers the audience an energetic and culturally profound evening of entertainment.

ACTF Recap for As it is in Heaven
At the ACTF competition, LMC Theatre received many many honors for their work and creativity. Our stage crew received numerous awards for their expertise and hard work, Savannah Smith, Rachel Joseph, and Samantha Grace were all individually recognized for their outstanding acting abilities, both LMC faculty Jami Hughes and Toni Wright received individual awards for their accomplishments in choreography and costume design... even our lobby display won an award at the Festival! And, of course, one of our most treasured moments at the festival came when our entire company of actors received the only acting/ensemble award at the festival for their performances in As it is in Heaven (this is not a standard award and it is certainly not common for every actor onstage to receive an award at any festival - and of this we are extremely proud)!
