The purpose of Service Learning at Lon Morris College is to help young people to become more service-oriented and to help them to cultivate a lifetime love of service to their communities, schools, and churches. The Service Learning program involves students in organized activities that address local needs while developing their academic skills and commitment to their community.
Service Learning is a two-year program. The student receives a BA, BS, or BFA degree with service learning. LMC graduates who complete the program receive a service learning transcript as well as an academic transcript. Studies show that students involved in service have a greater chance for scholarships at universities as well as greater opportunities for employment in fields of their choice.
Two leadership classes are a part of the curriculum. Outstanding speakers from various fields visit throughout the semesters. Twenty-four hours of volunteer service are required each semester. Reflection groups encourage students to integra
te the volunteer experience into the academic learning.
