Coach Dotson begins his 18th year at LMC coming off of the most successful season in the school's history.  During his 18 years, Dotson's Bearcats have  won three regional championships, won two conference championships, played in three regional finals, played in two regional semi-finals and qualified in 2002, 2004 and 2007 for the NJCAA national tournament finishing as a quarterfinalist in 2002 and 6th place in 2007.  Dotson's trip the NJCAA tournament in 2002 made him the first Bearcat coach to both play and coach in the national tournament.
Dotson began his college playing career as the starting point guard on the LMC 1963-64 team that placed fifth at the NJCAA national tournament.  One year later, he earned NJCAA All-American honors as the Bearcats captured the Texas Eastern Conference crown but were beaten in the regional final.  He completed his playing career after two seasons at the University of Texas.  Upon completing his playing days, Dotson became the assistant coach at UT from 1969-1976 under Coach Leon Black whom Dotson played for at Lon Morris.  At Texas, Dotson helped the Longhorns to two Southwest Conference Championships and two berths in the NCAA tournament.
After a 13 year stint as a high school coach, Dotson returned to his East Texas roots and to LMC, the place that he calls his true alma mater, to take over the reins as the head basketball coach and athletic director in the spring of 1989.  During his tenure at LMC, he has produced eight All-Americans and sent more than 35 players to the Division I level with his players having a 94% graduation rate.
Rick Dotson is the men's basketball assistant coach.
