Can I get discounted software by being enrolled at LMC? Yes. Students can purchase discounted Microsoft products online at http://www.shopscholar.com. From the "Institution Type" drop down menu choose "College/University" then under "State/Province" choose "Texas" and click the "Go" button. From the list of colleges click "Lon Morris College" and you are there.
How will I connect to the LMC network?
Dorm rooms and several locations in the library have network jacks available for students. When plugged in with a CAT-5 network cable, the network will automatically assign an IP address to the student’s computer, no password required.
Are there any wireless hotspots on campus?
No. Currently the campus does not have any WiFi hot spots. We are working on this and will have access available as soon as possible.
Can I get viruses from the LMC network?
Yes. Viruses can come from emails, web browsing and file sharing on the network. Before you hook up your computer to the LMC network, ask yourself several questions:
1. Is the computer protected by some anti-virus software?
2. Is the software current with its latest version?
3. Is the software current with the latest virus definitions?
4. Is file sharing disabled?
Before purchasing another product we recommend installing AVG 8.5 Free from Grisoft, Inc.
Are games allowed on the Lon Morris network?
Yes. Let us know if you have trouble connecting to your favorite games. Adjustments can be made to the firewall that will allow your games to work on the network.
Is File Sharing allowed on the Lon Morris network?
No. The use of file sharing programs is prohibited on campus. Programs like Napster, Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire and others negatively affect the Internet bandwidth of the whole campus. Web browsing, video streaming and gaming are just a few of the supported activities that file sharing can slow or stop from working. If caught file sharing, the student’s Internet access will be suspended for a period of time. Multiple offenses will result in a ban from the LMC network.
What will my campus email address be?
The email address is normally the first name, then a dot(period), and then the last name followed by “@webmail.lonmorris.edu.” For example, Bob Freaky would have an email address of “bob.freaky@webmail.lonmorris.edu”.
How do I access my Students First portal?
Go to the campus website, www.lonmorris.edu, and click the “Students First Login” link on the left side of the page. It prompts you for a user id and a password. For the first login, your user id and password match, and are both your student id number. After your first or second login you will be prompted to change your password. It is recommended that you do so at that time. When finished changing your password it will give you a "Success" message on the screen. At that time close your browser and login again with the new password to get to your portal.
